7 Tips To Keep In Mind When Buying Childrens Golf Clubs

My son fell in love with golf after I took him to the local golf course and started teaching him the game. Now he is always asking to go with me whenever I play there. Even if he cannot play for himself, he just wants to be there and see the game at close hand. I like the idea that he is becoming passionate about something at such an early age and so I decided that I am going to give him full support if he ever wants to pursue playing the sport.

The first step that I have to take on my way to supporting him is to buy a set of childrens golf clubs. That was how I discovered that buying golf clubs for children and getting clubs for adults is not the same thing. If you are a parent like me who is on the lookout for a set of golf clubs for your children then let me help you out. Here are some of the things that I have learned in buying a set of childrens golf clubs for my boy:

1. Before you go out and buy a set, make sure that your child understands some of the basics of the game. For example when I took my son on his first trip to the golf course we just borrowed his cousins golf club set. That was the time that I taught him the basics of the game. Afterwards when we were shopping for his own clubs he was able to pick the ones that have the right feel because he has some understanding of how the game works and what he needs from his clubs.

2. Take your child on a trip going through several pro shops. That’s what I did with my son. These shops offer an excellent opportunity for handling and getting the feel for the clubs.

3. When your child holds on to a club, observe its length. A club with an ideal length should have no more than an inch of distance from the end of the club when your child grips it for a swing.

4. Reducing the length of clubs to become fit for children’s use results in stiffness which can affect your child’s performance. That is why it is important that you think about the material for the shaft. Modern materials are more flexible and that allows the club to adapt to the shot and to be more forgiving to children’s errors.

5. The weight is also another important factor in buying a golf club. Make sure that the golf club is something that you child can handle with ease.

6. For older children using adult grips should not be a problem. Younger kids will need specialized grips of their own to make handling easier, just like the ones that I got for my son.

7. Let your child have a voice in deciding which golf club set to get, after all he will be the one to use them.

These are just some of the things that I learned about buying golf clubs for children and it worked like a charm for my son. He loves his new clubs, plus he might even be playing a bit better now he has his own set ;)
